Life With a Newborn: Still Waiting…but Hopefully Not Long!

Somehow, I imagined I’d have a newborn by my due date!  Not so much.  I’m still waiting for my baby.

At this time, I’m working to prepare my older kids to expect the new baby.  Luckily, they don’t understand “due dates” or anything like this, so they’re not counting down or wondering why baby isn’t here yet.  They just know it will be “soon.”

As of late Thursday night, I’m having some contractions…6 – 12 minutes apart, a bit irregular.  Which, if this goes anywhere (who knows), I’ll update what “life with a newborn” is like later on today!  Be watching for that!

Meet baby Jacob Alexander!

He was born at 6:38 am this morning, August 5th, weighing 8 lbs. 11 oz. and 20.5″ long.  (Yes, he’s a big boy…36 cm head and 37 cm chest!)  My biggest baby yet, by far.  And healthiest — we were told the placenta was ‘perfect’ and very healthy (unlike Daniel’s, 10 days BEFORE his due date).  And of course he is healthy too!  He was very alert for the hour following his birth, then asleep for couple hours, then awake again for a good hour and a half!  He just wanted to sit and stare at Mommy!

Luckily my parents arrived just after 6 am, before Jacob was born and before the older kids got up.  We actually woke Bekah and Daniel shortly after Jacob’s arrival, around 6:45, so they could meet him.  Bekah, who had repeatedly asked for a girl, only asked once why he wasn’t a girl, and since then has been absolutely thrilled.  She’s claimed as “her baby brother” and spent most of her time holding him, or climbing on whoever has him!  We’ve seen no difficulty or jealousy or anything from her; she is just very excited.

Daniel is a bit apprehensive; he wants to snuggle Mommy and doesn’t understand why he can’t climb on me and why I can’t get up and carry him right now.  He’s been a little fussy today.  But luckily he’s been happy that his grandparents are here with him.  They took the kids grocery shopping for me today since I obviously couldn’t!  We had a good couple hours to nap and snuggle Jacob while they were gone.

Now we are all resting!
