This is it! 2013 has arrived, and it’s time for our “31 Days to Better Health and Wellness Challenge!”
I’m very excited to begin, and I hope that all of you are too. I love to set goals in the new year. Of course, you can set goals any time (and should!) but there’s just something about the calendar flipping over and feeling like you have a “fresh start.” It’s a good time to take stock of your life and decide where you want to go over the next 12 months — keeping in mind that things may change as you go along and that’s okay. Still, it’s a great time to make some changes!
You can take a look back at some of my goals — I posted them yesterday. Those are only my goals, though. This challenge is to help you make and meet your goals!
If you haven’t yet registered for the challenge, head over and do so now. Registration will be open for the rest of this week and we’ll help you “catch up” if needed, but after Saturday, 1/5, it’s closed! Challenge participants will have access to a private forum where they can ask questions and share frustrations and triumphs, and they’re eligible to win one of several great prizes:
- Dragonfly Remedies – 2 oz. healing balm, lavender-mint lip balm ($20 value)
- Natural Fertility Shop — Self Fertility Massage DVD
- Natural Fertility Shop — Fertilica Maca 500 mg.
- Green Pastures – 3 $50 gift coupons
- Essential Medicine – doTERRA Essential Oil starter kit
- Keeper of the Home – Set of 3 ebooks (Healthy Homemaking, Real Food on a Real Budget, and Plan It: Don’t Panic)
- Kitchen Stewardship — Set of 2 ebooks (The Everything Beans Book and Healthy Snacks to Go)
- The Babywearing Workout — 2 Downloads of The Baby Wearing Work Out video
- GreenZilla20 — A bottle of super-fruit-based energy drink (no stimulants)
These prizes will be drawn at random, but only official participants are eligible to win!
All challenge participants also need to buy the official Challenge Guide, which comes with printables (to keep track of your own goals and progress), more information on the challenge, a list of all the daily tips, and several coupons and sponsor offers. Believe me, you want the Challenge Guide, so that you can take advantage of the offers! They are found exclusively in the guide and won’t be posted publicly at all.
Challenge, Week 1
This is the first week of the challenge, and our focus will be on setting your goals. This is the week where you will decide what, exactly, you want to do this year.
Our focus here will be on goals like:
- Becoming a better spouse/partner
- Becoming a more patient parent
- Creating a better organizational system at home
- Creating a more streamlined daily routine
If it’s related to homemaking or relationship, we’ve got you covered. If you have goals (whether additional or “instead of”) in other areas, head over to our sister sites: Modern Alternative Kitchen (food/diet), Modern Alternative Pregnancy (pre-conception, hormone balancing, healthy pregnancy), or Modern Alternative Health (natural medicine, weight loss, exercise).
What are your goals? Why do you want to do those? Are your goals specific enough?
“I want to be a better wife” isn’t a very specific goal. Instead, think about “I want to pray for and find small ways to bless my husband more” or “I want to be more patient with my husband” or “I want to spend more time with my husband.” The latter examples are all more specific ways that one might ‘be a better wife.’
Or, if your goal is “I want to be a more patient parent,” what does that look like for you? Maybe “I don’t want to yell at my kids anymore” or “I don’t want to get mad when they make normal kid messes” or “I want to laugh or whisper when I am feeling frustrated.”
Grab your Challenge Guide and write down exactly what you want to change. Be very specific.
Throughout this week, we’ll have more posts about goal setting, so don’t worry if you’re not sure yet what to write down. Write down your general ideas and we’ll help you refine them this week and next week.
This Week’s Sponsor
In every kitchen, there should be Real Salt, and in every medicine cabinet, Redmond Clay. These two products are so diverse and so healthy! Both of these, as well as Earthpaste (a fluoride-free, glycerin-free, truly safe toothpaste made with bentonite clay) are made by Redmond Trading Company.
Real Salt is a true sea salt that’s mined in Utah from an ancient sea. It’s uncontaminated by modern pollutants because the salt dried up underground, protecting it from the elements. It contains many trace minerals that the body needs, and it isn’t bleached or processed in any way. This salt doesn’t even taste like regular table salt! The body needs real salt to be healthy, and this is it. They even have table, kosher, and popcorn salts, plus flavored salts and bath salts too!
Redmond Clay is a versatile bentonite clay that comes in many different preparations – powder, pills, paste, even baby powder! Clay has so many uses. It can be used for skin rashes, bug bites or stings, facial masks, detox baths, intestinal parasites, digestive upset, and so much more. If you’re just stocking your natural medicine cabinet, you will want this in it because it has so many uses and it is safe for nearly everyone. Choose the preparations(s) that are right for you, or buy the plain clay and mix them up yourself!
Finally, Earthpaste. Many families struggle to find safe toothpaste these days. Much of it has fluoride in it (unsafe), glycerin (coats the teeth and doesn’t allow for remineralization) or baking soda (can be harsh on tooth enamel over time). Earthpaste doesn’t contain any of these ingredients, making it safe to swallow, even for the little ones. It comes in three flavors that kids love – they’ll actually enjoy brushing, and parents won’t worry about them swallowing any. And it’s made for all ages!
