Six Simple Soups for Cold Days

By Danielle, Contributing Writer

Soup, for me is the ultimate comfort food on a cold Winter’s day.  Not only that, but made with quality stock and real food ingredients it can be a bowl of awesome nourishment.

Here are some simple yet amazing soups from around the web to try on snowy (or rainy) cold days.

Simple & Delicious Potato Soup - creamy potato soup is perhaps my favorite of all creamy-style soups.  Those little bit-size chunks of potato hidden in a creamy broth…ummm!

Easy Cream of Broccoli - Broccoli is one of our favorite veggies to grow in our garden.  And in this post at Raising The Barrs you’ll also find tips on using an immersion blender.  I never thought I’d like an immersion blender until I found one for $1 at the Salvation Army.  Bought it, loved it, miss it, can’t wait to replace it!

Curried Butternut Squash Soup – Our local coffee shop serves a butternut squash soup that is to die for and this soup sounds just as awesome!

Butternut Squash & Pear Soup – I’m intrigued by the idea of adding fresh pear to leeks and butternut squash.  This soup sounds so amazing!

Clam Chowder with Sneaky Zucchini – Maybe it’s wrong but sometimes I need to sneak in a few extra veggies…for my own sake.  I have an oral allergy to some raw fruits and vegetables so they don’t make a good snack for me.  I often feel I don’t get enough and meals like this soup from A New (England) Life  help me get some extra veggies into my diet.

Curry Lentils

Indian Red Lentil Soup – My husband has taken a liking to curry spice.  Keep in mind, my husband is a meat and potatoes, shoot it, skin it and eat it kinda guy, so curry is a big step.  I think I’ll add red lentils to our shopping list and give this soup a try.
